This foundation session will cover use of the Traffic Simulation tool to analyze traffic flow through intersections, display color-coded traffic-analysis results, and generate traffic-simulation animations to play in your model. More importantly, the Traffic Analyst panel enables you to specify advanced demand matrices, profiles, vehicle types, driver types, and other variables. In this class we are going to look at how we can create and model geological data with the Geotechnical Module in AutoCAD Civil 3D software. The class will cover how to import and generate boring holes and surfaces in AutoCAD Civil 3D software, and then we'll go on to cover the essential techniques in modeling the subsurface data. The class will see how to use Feature Lines and Break Lines to mold and manipulate AutoCAD Civil 3D software surfaces to model geotechnical features. We will then learn how to convert the AutoCAD Civil 3D surfaces into AutoCAD software 3D solids ready for use in other software systems like Revit software and InfraWorks software. This class is designed to assist you in your understanding of the techniques used to model and visualize substrata in order to better understand and present information.

Road infrastructure consists of many simple elements—road signs, traffic barriers, traffic lights, and so on. Creating and placing them separately in large infrastructure projects can be very labor intensive. In this technical presentation, we’ll demonstrate how to automate the creation of an intelligent model for road infrastructure using Dynamo scripts and universal Revit families. This class will teach you how to organize a geographic information system (GIS) system of a traffic management plan in Civil 3D software and effectively transfer it to an InfraWorks model. Learn how to set up an effective link between a 2D plan and the consolidated intelligent model in accordance with the information embedded in the vector objects. We’ll also cover the creation of parametric barriers in Inventor software for InfraWorks, and how to apply parametric barriers for component roads in InfraWorks. See a demonstration of the Dynamo script that places barriers on the appropriate position in the consolidated model in accordance with the attributes of the barrier’s points from the 2D plan.

Sending crews into the field to measure and collect information about assets is time consuming and costly. But when you have street-level spherical imagery and colorized LIDAR (light detection and ranging) data at hand, you have the freedom to quickly, accurately, and cost-effectively create photorealistic 3D models for planning, design, emergency and disaster management, regulatory compliance, and asset management. We'll explore the collection process and business implications for street-level reality capture and examine 2 alternatives, such as Google Street View and CycloMedia. We'll also discuss practical workflows for municipal governments using this data, including design and visualization, with a focus on water asset management and pavement surface markings. Finally, we'll describe how to effectively integrate these data sources with AutoCAD Civil 3D software and InfraWorks software.

Due to their nature, rail infrastructure projects greatly benefit from the adoption of workflows based on intelligent models and point clouds to allow off-site analyses without the need of the physical presence on the field. FSTechnology, a division of the Italian Railways, set up this workflow based on an integration of Autodesk software—including Autodesk Construction Cloud, Revit software, and Civil 3D software—with Esri ArcGIS GeoBIM. We combined CAD, building information modeling (BIM), point clouds, and orthophotos with geographic information system (GIS) and game engine technologies and added the construction program in a browser-based 4D solution with issue tracking. This is not only intended to monitor the progress of the physical works being executed, but also to achieve better control during the maintenance phase of the railways. All these combined and advanced technologies help us to monitor the most-critical infrastructures like viaducts and bridges, and factors of environmental interest and relevance, supported by artificial intelligence.

This class will provide a comprehensive overview of building information modeling (BIM) implementation in Qatar. We will cover the road map and strategy of the Public Works Authority aligned with the Corporate Strategy and Qatar National Vision 2030. We'll discuss modern methodologies for design and construction delivery across the country, along with the development and publication of the Ashghal BIM Standards (ABIMS) based on ISO 19650. We will also examine the establishment of a BIM policy that mandates BIM use on all building and infrastructure projects, and we'll cover the challenges associated with BIM implementation. Industry has both adopted the native functionality but also expanded it with custom applications over the years, which has created cross-interoperability challenges. Currently moving toward digital-twin efficient data flows beyond design and constructions phases is becoming increasingly important. In this class, we will showcase how—with the help of Autodesk Data Exchange—we can break the silos and enable the transition toward digital twins.

Our industry's current reliance on interoperability workflow hacks—such as app-specific import/export plug-ins, file formats with varying support across tools, and limited point-to-point translators—results in inconsistent data-sharing experiences that suck up time and require rework. Autodesk's Data Exchange app moves your disconnected workflows toward more-seamless cloud interoperability between the design tools you use every day, whether they be CAD tools or building information modeling (BIM) and 3D modeling apps (like AutoCAD software, Revit software, Tekla, Rhino, and Inventor software). In this class, you'll learn how you can use Data Exchange to curate, securely share, view, and manage design data across these apps and multiple stakeholders—with specific focus on AutoCAD and Revit interoperability. We'll explore how Data Exchange can simplify BIM/3D model-to-drawing sharing and generation, can move data more selectively and effectively from 2D to 3D, and can open the door to more-streamlined model audits and quantity takeoff (QTO).

This class will showcase a connected data workflow used to deliver large water and sewer infrastructure projects from design to commissioning. This is accomplished with a systematic use of Civil 3D software and ArcGIS integration, asset data governance, and Industry Foundation classes (IFC) for digital-twin commissioning. The sewer and water designs are first developed in Civil 3D. Dynamo and Python are used to attach a class library as property set data and generate a spreadsheet model database. The spreadsheet is linked to an Esri geodatabase through geoprocessing and Python. This geodatabase is updated with field-collected attribute data and as-built data via Esri Field Maps. The computational process is reversed to update the spreadsheet and subsequently the Civil 3D model. The model is delivered as-built, and an IFC version containing the asset data is exported for the owner's digital-twin ecosystem.
